We have been under voluntary ‘social distancing’ for the past month now here in British Columbia…it barely impacts me personally since I have been living in isolation for many years before this due to my physical health issues…I have been unable to travel or go visiting, shopping, or meal preparing, etc. My range of motion is limited. My life is pretty much at ‘bare bones’ level in order to stay positive. Sometimes, I just stay in my pajamas the whole day if my body hurts too much. It is amazing what we can do without when the need to let go of former expectations arises in order to make our life easier and simpler! (I really need a hair cut but will have to wait it out like everyone else!)
Meanwhile, the snow is almost melted off the ground and I am looking forward to sitting in my lounge chair by the river when the ground is completely dry again, watching the ducks, osprey, eagles and crows as they scope out smaller animal life for their survival. Last fall, I witnessed the osprey swooping down into the river to catch dinner several times…and I also got a chance to see how the parent ducks train their young to provide their own dinners…basically they are nudged to start swimming and looking for fish as they float down the river…I had never seen how they ‘processed’ their catch before but it looked like very hard work…the duck sat on a rock for about one hour and then intermittently lifted its wings as they pushed the food further down their gullet with their internal muscles…I swear that fish was at least 10 inches long!
My husband has made friends with a squirrel and has been cracking nuts for her almost every day throughout the winter…when he misses a day, she comes up in view of the kitchen window to remind him! (I know, they are notorious hoarders as they gather nuts for the winter but they forget where they stored them!) This past week, he missed several days so the squirrel climbed up the cedar trees in front of my 3rd floor office window yesterday where I could see her so that I would remind him! LOL! So cute! And he says he saw a couple of robins by the gate to our property so that means spring is definitely coming! And the swallows are back too! How can you tell I love spring?

On another note: If you as visitor to the rainbow scribe website were having to endure the “checking your browser” message, I finally took the one hour plus of waiting in cue to find out why this keeps happening…the answer: The web host gets attacked with bots who try to take their server down…so the security force of this server sets up this message in order to establish if the visitor is human or bot and this slows down the bot attack. Please be patient when it happens during your visits.
